Positive parenting for newborns
Visits
Newborns are irresistible and your friends and family have been waiting for 8 long months to get a cuddle, so don't be surprised if the crowds, questions and visits become too tiring for you and your newborn. Set ‘visiting hours' and be a ‘lazy' host and let them make their own refreshments! Plus, visitors will completely understand if you ask short notice to postpone; you and baby are the priority here.
Too hot? Too cold?
Newborns are temperature sensitive, so most experts recommend that you keep the house at between 68 to 72 degrees Fahrenheit. At night time, cloth baby lightly and don't over-bundle her. If you're not sure, use lots of thin layers which you can take off during the night - your baby should not be hot to touch.
Manage your anxiety
Having a baby is a joyous but anxious occasion - you're tired and your hormones are raging. How can you tell if you're making the right decisions? Easy; you must rely on your intuition, consult your doctor, ask for help and contact people who you would feel comfortable guiding you in this journey. Parenting groups and online parenting communities can be invaluable at this stage.
